Pros of Malik Muhammad

  • Transitions. Easy crossover run that allows him to zone or speed turn effortlessly. Hips looked coiled and sprung. Feet are sharp out of his pedal. Breaks on the ball fast.
  • Run Support. Loses all sight of his dimensions when the ball is in play. Will dive headfirst into a pile, shows some impressive knockback at the point of contact.
  • Zone vision. Excellent eyes and peripheral vision. Allows him to be in two spots at once, holding pattern on his responsibilities while also breaking on the ball underneath.

Cons of Malik Muhammad

  • Frame. Limited size at under 6 feet and sub 185 pounds.
  • Play strength. Questions about his ability to be physical at the catch point.
  • Press man. Doesn’t show the ideal tenacity and physicality at the line of scrimmage despite obvious physical traits. Much better when aligned with a cushion.

Background

A two-time state champion in the state of Texas, Muhammad hails from DeSoto, Texas, and South Oak Cliff High School where he was named an Under Armour All-American before his three years with the Texas Longhorns. Muhammad played in 41 games with 29 career starts for the Longhorns.

Player Evaluation

Malik Muhhammad is a highly disciplined zone corner who can excel in split safety looks like quarters and cover two, while showing the propensity to be stable in cover three and match principles. He lacks some of the physicality you want out of a man coverage corner, but his ability to cover ground in zone, primarily thanks to his buttery smooth transition skills and high football IQ project well to the NFL.
