The Oklahoma Sooners may soon add another elite 2027 recruit. Cornerback JuJu Johnson just announced plans for an official visit to Oklahoma from June 12-14.

Oklahoma Sooners could end up with a cornerback problem

The Sooners really like what they see in JuJu Johnson and hope to land him. However, that hope comes paired with the hope that it doesn’t sway away four-star in-state cornerback target Gabriel Osborne, and doesn’t force the two cornerbacks they already have in our-star Mikhail McCreary and three-star Mikyal Davis, to decommit. OU is in Johnson’s top five, and landing him could surely cause one of these things to happen. Or, it could start a chain reaction. Or maybe we are all overreacting, and Oklahoma just has four cornerbacks going into 2027, where they had just one in 2026.

Luckily, Johnson could also play safety.

“He could play corner, safety, or receiver at the college level and is a legit high major college prospect at all three spots,” recruiting analyst Greg Biggins said. “He’s a twitchy athlete who has both short area quickness and top end speed, and always comes with a high compete level and toughness.”

The Sooners have been pursuing Gabriel Osborne, the No. 11 cornerback in the 2027 class and No. 3 in Oklahoma. Osborne, also a standout basketball player at Mustang High School, showcases his versatility as a dual-sport athlete. Rivals projects Oklahoma to land him, though Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Ohio State remain strong contenders. Recently, Osborne’s basketball performance previewed his multi-sport talent. He could become a five-star player by the time he arrives on campus in 2027, regardless of where he goes.

OU recruits and develops cornerbacks well, so many want to play there. Last season’s starters, Eli Bowen and Courtland Guillory, were three-stars—Bowen a sophomore, Guillory a true freshman—showing star ratings aren’t everything. On3 gives OU a 99% chance to land four-star JuJu Johnson, and four-star Montre Jackson is rumored to lean toward OU.

It’s safe to say Oklahoma doesn’t have any trouble recruiting secondary players. Johnson, the Long Beach Poly four-star CB, could be a Sooner here soon.
