Andrew Berry has never been shy about trading for wide receivers and he shouldn’t shy away now with Brian Thomas potentially available.

The Cleveland Browns have one free agency signing set to happen so far with the expected addition of former Los Angeles Chargers G Zion Johnson

Cleveland’s biggest needs in free agency are around the offense with how badly they struggled last year. Besides losing as many as five offensive linemen to free agency, the Browns also need to upgrade their pass catchers.

The Browns should be calling the Jaguars regarding WR Brian Thomas

Cleveland GM Andrew Berry has never been shy about making a wide receiver trade and he may need to make it happen again. According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Jacksonville Jaguars are entertaining offers for third-year WR Brian Thomas.

Thomas is a former first-round pick out of LSU in the 2024 NFL Draft who hit the ground running with a huge rookie season. The former No. 23 overall pick caught 87 passes for 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie.

Those numbers were nearly cut in half this past season when Thomas posted 48 catches, 707 receiving yards, and a pair of touchdowns. There has been talk of Thomas being a questionable fit for Jaguars HC Liam Coen’s system in Jacksonville.

The Browns don’t have a wideout of the talent of Thomas and would immediately be a better team by sending one of their nine draft picks to the Jaguars to land him. Cleveland made the draft-day trade with Jacksonville a year ago and it landed them Travis Hunter, while the Browns picked up an extra first-round pick, as well as DT Mason Graham.

Past Jerry Jeudy, the Browns don’t have much proven talent at the wide receiver position and badly need to use resources to fix it. It’s a rarity for top-level wideouts to get to free agency, so trading for them or drafting them is how they must be acquired.

Cleveland has done well with their last two trades with the Jaguars and they should be open to making this third deal. Thomas would instantly become WR1 in Cleveland and make everyone’s life easier from HC Todd Monken to wherever the Browns start at quarterback.
