Former Tennessee Vols running back Alvin Kamara’s future in the NFL is up in the air.

Kamara, who has spent his entire career with the New Orleans Saints since turning pro in 2017, was essentially “replaced” on the first day of NFL free agency.

New Orleans reportedly agreed to a deal with free agent running back Travis Etienne on Monday (the deal can become official on Wednesday).

With Etienne, a Louisiana native, heading to New Orleans, it’s raised questions around the league about Kamara’s next move.

Could Alvin Kamara retire from the NFL?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there are “questions” around the league about whether Kamara will be moving on from the Saints.

“With the Saints reaching agreement today with RB Travis Etienne, there now are questions around the league about whether RB Alvin Kamara will be moving on from New Orleans and whether the Saints would be willing [to] trade him,” tweeted Schefter. “Teams are tracking and wondering about it.”

Kamara has previously said that he doesn’t want to play anywhere but New Orleans.

Kamara will turn 31 in July, and he’s coming off the least productive season of his career. If the Saints decide to move on, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if the former Vol retires.

One scenario, however, that could make sense for Kamara would be reuniting with former Saints head coach Sean Payton in Denver.

The Broncos re-signed running back JK Dobbins on Monday, but the team is still expected to add another running back to the roster.

Some of Kamara’s best seasons came while playing under Payton in New Orleans. Perhaps the duo could recreate some magic in Denver.

Kamara will obviously have the final say in his next move, but it seems clear that there’s interest around the league in the veteran running back.
