The Eagles could have a massive opportunity to add a star on defense.

As free agency slows down a bit, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman lurks. The Birds were quite quiet on Monday, the opening day of the two day negotiating window for free agents to discuss terms with teams. Free agency will officially kick off on Wednesday afternoon.

A Pro Bowl talent at pass rusher remains available, with no deal set in place with any other team. Former Cincinnati Bengals EDGE Trey Hendrickson has a market that remains fluid, and it could create the perfect scenario for Philly to pounce in order to improve their defense.

Eagles could still have a shot at signing Trey Hendrickson after losing Jaelan Phillips

According to NFL insider Jonathan Jones from CBS, multiple teams are describing a big gap between Hendrickson’s asking price and their current offers. The Eagles may look to strike after losing Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers this week via the free agent market. The proverbial door is open.

“As of this morning, there were teams I spoke with who said the gap between what he wanted and what they were willing to pay was close to $10 million per year,” Jones wrote on a social media post

Clearly, the market is not quite as robust as Hendrickson’s camp may have expected. Now, the Eagles could get involved for a price that makes sense for the team, given their lack of cap space compared to some of their counterparts around the league who may have interest.

Hendrickson was ranked as the No. 2 player available in A to Z Sports’ Top-100 NFL Free Agents. He would make an instant impact for any team, and the Eagles give him a better chance at winning his first Super Bowl ring of his career than many other suitors.

“Hendrickson enters the free agency market for the second time in his career, and will do so at 31 years old. How much will teams be willing to give him, and what will the term be for one of the league’s best edge rushers? It’s likely north of $30 million, but he will deserve every penny.” – Tyler Forness

Eagles’ clear need for proven pass rush help in free agency

The pass rush for Philadelphia looks a bit more unproven than fans would probably like. Nolan Smith is a young player the staff is excited about, but is he ready for a starting job?

Jalyx Hunt has had some splash plays along the defensive line, but it is tough to project him as a top-line starter that the Eagles could use. With their presence on the interior, I do think the EDGE group can be less than superstar caliber.

That being said, getting Hendrickson at a price that bodes well for value for the Eagles could be a massive move for a roster looking to get back to the Super Bowl in 2026.

We will see if the Eagles make a splash to improve that group. It is worth noting that some reports had them as a possible landing spot in a Maxx Crosby trade before he was dealt to the Baltimore Ravens.
