The Ravens are officially at the center of the weirdest NFL story we’ve seen in years as the Maxx Crosby blockbuster trade takes a stunning turn

What’s that saying? Don’t count your Baltimore Ravens before they hatch? Something like that?

The Ravens appeared to be in line to hatch a big haul at the start of the league year when it was announced last weekend that they’d be trading two first-round draft selections for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders. It was a move applauded by many for the aggressive approach to address a need and try to break through their glass ceiling.

There’s just one problem. This deal is, reportedly, off. It’s not happening.

The Baltimore Ravens are backing out of the Maxx Crosby deal

“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We will have no further comment at this time.” — The Las Vegas Raiders

This was supposed to be a historic move for the Ravens. The team had never, in their history, traded a veteran player for a first round draft selection. They’ve only gone through three NFL Drafts in 31 years without making a first-round pick.

This serves as the most sobering of reminders — NFL trades cannot be finalized until the league year starts and they are fully processed. This one got a jump on the league year by nearly a week, which proved to be too much time for things to fall into place and this deal to be finalized. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini is reporting that Crosby did not pass his physical as a part of the processing of the deal.

The fallout of this deal re-shuffles the landscape of the 2026 NFL Draft, too. The Las Vegas Raiders’ moves this week? Could they be jumbled up as a result? This has the potential to be absolute chaos for the NFL. And the Ravens are, shockingly, at the epicenter of it.
