Talk about a wild NFL plot twist. After the Baltimore Ravens agreed to trade for Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby, a failed physical brought down the deal on Tuesday.

What does it mean for the Dallas Cowboys? A lot is being made about their chances of swooping in and ending up with Crosby after losing the trade sweepstakes to the Ravens. Let’s break it all down.

What we know about the Crosby fiasco

There’s not much we know about why the Crosby trade fell apart, but according to multiple reports, here’s what we do know:

  • It was the Ravens who backed out out of the deal, not the Raiders. This means Las Vegas isn’t doing this because a better offer came through.
  • We also know there was a failed physical involved and that Crosby had knee surgery in January.

The reality is more information is need to paint a clear picture of what happened, as right now, many versions of the story are circling the NFL world. According to league insider Tom Pelissero, an annonymous GM was described as “BS” from the Ravens.

But based on last weekend’s reports on the Cowboys making an aggressive push to land Crosby, can we expect them to pick up the phone? I’d dare speculate yes… but with a different offer in mind.

If I had to guess…

We know the Cowboys were interested in Crosby at last year’s deadline and then again last weekend. They also have a high tolerance for making gambles on injured players. Could their benchmark for Crosby’s knee be different than the Ravens’ is? I think so.

However, the Cowboys were reported to offer a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick. I don’t see them giving up the same knowing about his failed physical in Baltimore. Not when it should have an impact in how the rest of the league values him, and not when the Cowboys already agreed to give up a 2027 fourth-round pick for EDGE Rashan Gary.

“They won’t get two [first-round picks] though,” an NFL high-ranking exec said via insider Mike Silver.

The Raiders’ projected cash spending for this year’s free agency sits at $281.57 million, per Over the Cap, too. That’s leverage for the Cowboys as Las Vegas was projecting Crosby to not be on their books.

How much are they willing to accept for Crosby? It’s anyone’s guess right now. But I’d expect the Cowboys to come in with a lower offer than last week.
