‘We’re going to see who is a tougher team’ – Auburn feels disrespected and they’re out for revenge in SEC Tournament against Tennessee
The Auburn Tigers and the Tennessee Vols will face off in Nashville on Thursday.
The Auburn Tigers and the Tennessee Vols are set to meet on Thursday at 3:00 PM ET in the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
Tennessee beat Auburn in January in Knoxville in the lone regular season matchup between the two teams.
Auburn’s players have that loss on their mind ahead of the rematch with Tennessee in the SEC Tournament.
Auburn’s players issue a challenge to Tennessee
Several Auburn players met with reporters on Wednesday after the Tigers’ opening-round win against Mississippi State.
And those players made it clear that Thursday’s game against the Vols is “personal”, due to some comments that were made after Tennessee’s win in January.
“We lost to them in the regular season,” said Auburn guard Tahaad Pettiford. “We heard some things that was said after the game, so we’re going to see them tomorrow.”
“Some things said in the press conference, you know, some giggles after the game — we [saw] it,” added Pettiford when asked to clarify his comments.
Auburn forward Keyshawn Hall offered a similar sentiment while speaking with some reporters.
“I feel a lot of urgency,” said Hall. “It’s kind of personal this game. I heard after the game they were laughing or something in the interviews and thinking it was a game since they beat us. I mean, they won fair and square. They’re a great team, but it’s gonna be a personal game. So we’re gonna see who’s a tougher team.”
Vols forwards Dwayne Brown and Nate Ament met with the media after Tennessee’s win against Auburn in January. Ament, specifically, had to stifle his laughter a few times after it was mentioned that Tigers head coach Steven Pearl described Brown as an SEC defensive end.
Thursday’s matchup between Tennessee and Auburn could turn into a boxing match on Thursday in Nashville.
