Latest intel shows Kansas City Chiefs want answers on key question about one of 2026 NFL Draft’s top tight end prospects
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to dig deeper on 2026 NFL Draft prospects, with plans to host Georgia TE Oscar Delp for a pre-draft visit.
The Kansas City Chiefs march toward the 2026 NFL Draft as they continue to evaluate top prospects through the pro day circuit, pre-draft visits, and other means.
The latest intel suggests that Brett Veach and company are looking for answers on a key question about one of the best tight ends in the class. Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq is the clear-cut No. 1 tight end in the class, but behind him in the No. 2 spot, it’s anyone’s game. One challenger will soon visit Kansas City. As first reported by Arye Pulli, the Chiefs are among the teams with an upcoming pre-draft top-30 visit scheduled with Georgia TE Oscar Delp.
Delp is an intriguing case because of what the 6-foot-5 and 245-pound prospect went through at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. ABC Atlanta’s Zach Klein reported that Delp was scratched from workouts after routine medical checks found a fracture in his foot that he’d been playing with for the entire 2025 college football season.
“NFL league source tells me Georgia Bulldog’s TE Oscar Delp can’t go through combine drills here in Indy due to liability issues,” Klein wrote. “Apparently, Delp played ENTIRE season with a hairline fracture in his foot and it was accidentally found on a routine x-ray. I’m told Delp wants to compete, but won’t be allowed. Oscar will run and be a be full go at UGA’s pro day on March 18th.”
21 days after the combine, Delp worked out at his pro day. He reportedly ran a 4.48s 40-yard dash, posted a 38.5-inch vertical, and a 120-inch broad jump. Those numbers would’ve earned him a 96.0 A to Z Sports Athletic composite, with a 97th percentile speed score and an 89th percentile burst score among NFL Scouting Combine participants since 2000.

Oscar Delp fits in a very specific bucket of how the Chiefs use top-30 visits
If you’re not familiar with the term, top-30 visits refer to 30 allotted pre-draft visits with prospects in the upcoming NFL draft. The Chiefs use their pre-draft visits in very specific ways, but they almost certainly indicate some level of interest on the team’s part. These visits don’t just serve as an introduction to the team for prospects; they’re also opportunities to assess a range of things.
In the case of Delp, the Chiefs are very likely bringing him in for medical rechecks on his foot. They have been known to gamble on players with injuries or medical issues in the past, and they’ve often come out on the other side as winners. See Ohio State’s Josh Simmons a year ago, coming off a patella injury. There’s also Trey Smith in 2021, who the team stole in the sixth round. Both of those players took pre-draft visits with the team.
Could Delp be the next such draft prospect for Kansas City? That will ultimately depend on how his medical evaluation goes and how comfortable the team is with the foot injury. Right now, Delp is viewed as a mid-to-late Day 2 prospect and could even be an option at pick No. 74 for Kansas City if things check out.
How does Oscar Delp fit with the Chiefs?
Delp was overshadowed for the majority of his career by his Bulldogs teammate Brock Bowers. While he might not be the receiving weapon that Bowers is, he certainly put together a solid career for himself with 70 receptions for 854 yards and nine touchdowns over four seasons at Georgia. He has solid hands, dropping passes at a 4.1% rate during his college football career. He’s known for his versatility as a blocker, lining up all over the alignment as both a run blocker and a pass blocker.
The Chiefs, of course, re-signed TE Travis Kelce on a one-year deal, but they would be wise to begin thinking about the future without No. 87. The team has needs for a blocking tight end, but Kelce could also be playing in his final year. The path to contributing at the tight end position in the NFL isn’t always immediate, and bringing a player like Delp into the fold while Kelce is still with the team could be beneficial in the long term for his development as an all-around professional.
