National media outlet names the perfect free agent and draft fit to fill the Denver Broncos’ biggest remaining need
The Denver Broncos still have a big offensive need.
The Denver Broncos completed their most important offseason task by adding a big-time offensive playmaker to the roster earlier this month.
Denver’s trade with the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle gives quarterback Bo Nix another playmaker to get the ball to in 2026.
The Broncos, however, still have some needs on the offensive side of the ball.
Specifically, Denver could stand to add a tight end to the roster — either via trade or the 2026 NFL Draft.
CBS Sports names the perfect free agent and draft fit to fill the Broncos’ biggest remaining need
CBS Sports pointed out two options — a free agent fit and a draft fit — to fill the Broncos’ need at tight end.
One is veteran tight end David Njoku, who is looking for a new home in the NFL after spending the first nine seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns.
The other option is Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers, who caught 111 passes for 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns during his two seasons with the Commodores.
“Evan Engram had a quiet first year in Denver, and even after trading for Jaylen Waddle, the Broncos could look to upgrade their pass catchers around Bo Nix,” wrote CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles. “Njoku is more of a powerful player, but perhaps Stowers, a quarterback-turned-tight-end, could fit the bill better. He delivered major production in college and wowed at the combine. This roster doesn’t have many true holes — and tight end really isn’t one, either — but either option could add some versatility.”
Njoku, who battled knee injuries last season, is likely going to have to settle for a “prove it” deal after coming off one of the least productive seasons of his NFL career.
The former Miami standout turns 30 this summer, so he should have plenty left in the tank, provided he can stay healthy.
Stowers, on the other hand, would be a great addition to the team, as he could be a player who develops into a franchise tight end for the Broncos.
Most mock drafts have Stowers being selected on day two, with some mock drafts even predicting that he’ll be selected by Denver at No. 62 overall.
The Broncos may choose to see how the draft plays out next month before further addressing the tight end position.
