The Denver Broncos shook up the NFL landscape with a blockbuster trade for former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. During the trade deadline in 2025, the Buffalo Bills had an offer for the talented pass catcher, but ultimately, Miami didn’t want to trade him in the division. Fast forward to the free agency period in the NFL, and Waddle found a new home with the Broncos.

This is exactly the kind of move fans were hoping for: a difference-maker for quarterback Bo Nix and the offense. He’s a vertical threat with plenty of gas left in the tank and should immediately raise the ceiling of the entire receiving corps.

It’s been reported that the Broncos have converted $15.416 million of option bonuses to a signing bonus for cap purposes. His new salary is $1.215 million for 2026, clearing up $12.3 million in cap space.

Another move could be on the way for the Denver Broncos

Outside of the major splash to land Waddle, the team has been relatively quiet through the free agency period. Instead of looking outward, the team prioritized taking care of its own and re-signing players to some new contracts, locking them up for the foreseeable future.

With the recent influx of cash, it could mean that head coach Sean Payton and the front office are trying to make another move. All that cash has to mean something is coming, right?

While it’s undoubtedly going to be as big a move for Waddle, there are still some pressing team needs that Denver has to address, and the recent boost to the salary cap could allow them to do exactly that. Outside of free agency, the draft is right around the corner, so the team will need to have some cash on hand to take care of their upcoming draft selections.

Even if that next move isn’t another headline-grabber, this is how contenders are built. They were aggressive when the moment called for it and were calculated everywhere else.

After swinging big for Waddle, Denver has put itself in a position to keep adding, whether that’s a savvy veteran signing or another impact piece in the draft.

Either way, the message is clear: the Broncos aren’t trying to just compete in 2026, they’re trying to take control of the AFC.
