Popular Minnesota Vikings NFL Draft target puts doubters at ease after pro day workout
Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Jermod McCoy finally worked out at his pro day in Knoxville and put a lot of doubts to rest about his health.
The Minnesota Vikings have a bevy of needs going into the NFL Draft. Through 13 weeks of our mock draft tracker here at A to Z Sports, we have gathered 348 mock drafts and the secondary has been a major factor, with safety accounting for 137 selections and cornerback 121.
There are a lot of interesting players for the Vikings, and one of them had a private workout on Monday. Clemson Tigers cornerback Avieon Terrell worked out, but it only lasted a few minutes. The same can’t be said for Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Jermod McCoy.
Jermod McCoy wows in pro day workout
March 31st was going to be a huge day for McCoy. He has yet to publically workout since he tore his ACL back in December of 2024 against the Ohio State Buckeyes. That all changed on Tuesday afternoon when he worked out and wowed scouts in attendance.
Regardless of him returning from a torn ACL, those are really good numbers for McCoy. The big thing wasn’t as much the overall athleticism, but the lateral movement is the biggest question for him. Even so, having scouts see you on the field doing anything is a good sign for his stock.
Through 13 weeks, McCoy has been a popular selection, with 21 selections. That ranks fourth since the start of 2026. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Devin Jackson said this about McCoy when he mocked him to Minnesota last week.
McCoy has shutdown corner ability and despite not working out yet during the predraft cycle, he would fit nicely in Brian Flores’ aggressive defense. His talent would suggest that he goes earlier than this spot.

On film, McCoy is my second-ranked cornerback due to his man coverage ability. He can stick with any receiver in the man coverage and has the ball skills to match. The biggest thing holding back McCoy from being a Vikings selection was the injury concerns. After his pro day, those concerns have been eased somewhat.
Will the Vikings end up going cornerback? That remains to be seen. If they do, everyone can feel better about McCoy’s health.
