ESPN makes it clear how they feel about Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar’s NFL draft stock

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar is hoping to be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. Aguilar spent one season at Tennessee, passing for 3,565 yards and 24 touchdowns while starting all 13 games.

The 2026 NFL Draft is just a few weeks away and we still don’t really have a good idea of where Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar will be selected (or if he’ll be selected at all).

There are some analysts who believe Aguilar is among the top quarterbacks in the draft, including former Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms, who has the former Vol as his No. 3 quarterback.

“Number three, which catches a lot of people by surprise — I’m just going to say, then go do a little research and tell me what a surprise it is — and that’s Joey Aguilar, the quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers,” said Simms.

“Listen, when you watch him play, you go, wow,” continued Simms. “He looks like a pro quarterback already. He’s a big guy, 6-foot-3… He’s athletic enough. The size that he is is a big deal, too. Because, man, he took some, well, there’s no other way to say it — he took some ass whoopings down there. He’s throwing the ball and, I mean, he’s just getting blown up. But he has great technique throwing the football. He’s another one who doesn’t lose control… He uses his feet really well.”

Simms’ son, former Texas Longhorns quarterback Chris Simms, is also high on Aguilar, ranking him as his No. 4 quarterback in the draft.

A recent mock draft from CBS Sports, on the other hand, doesn’t have Aguilar getting selected until the sixth round.

ESPN doesn’t have Joey Aguilar among its top 12 quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft

ESPN is one of the national media outlets that isn’t very high on Aguilar ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Draft analyst Jordan Reid ranked the top 12 quarterbacks in the draft, and he didn’t include Aguilar.

Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia, though, is ranked at No. 12 by Reid (he has Pavia listed as a potential day three selection).

Whether or not Aguilar should be ranked higher is up for debate (I’ll leave that to the analysts who are grinding through film). But it’s clear that ESPN doesn’t believe he’ll be selected in the draft later this month.
