It’s been a really good recruiting week for the Florida Gators.

Wednesday night finally brought the news that five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller committed to the program, and they followed it up 24 hours later with four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.

Head coach Jon Sumrall didn’t just land two top-150 recruits; Hiller is both a top-five overall recruit and the first five-star offensive lineman since Martez Ivey in 2015.

There is mutual belief with Florida Gators and Davin Davidson

It felt obvious that Hiller was going to become a Gator, and momentum built heavily for Davidson in the same way. Over the last week, it felt inevitable that Davidson would commit.

One of the big reasons Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong highlighted for his commitment was how much both parties believe in each other.

“State Champion out of Sarasota, Florida, Cardinal Mooney High. Goes six foot, six 215 pounds, so much physical development. He was one of the first quarterbacks that coach Sumrall, Coach Faulkner, and this new Gator coaching staff zeroed in on. He loves the trajectory of the program, the creativity of the offense, being able to play close to home and help restore glory to a gators program. He felt comfortable around the staff. Loved the environment of being inside the swamp. He believes in the Florida Gators, and the Gators believe in him.”

Getting their quarterback of the future lined up this early on in the recruiting process is huge for Sumrall. They can now use the next eight months with Davidson to maximize the other areas of the recruiting class, including tight end and running back.
