Kim Caldwell keeps the good vibes going with another big offseason win for the Lady Vols
It’s been a very productive offseason so far for Kim Caldwell and the Lady Vols. Caldwell is looking to rebuild Tennessee’s roster after finishing last season on an eight-game losing streak.
Lady Vols head coach Kim Caldwell earned another huge offseason win for Tennessee on Friday.
Former Boston College signee Irene Oboavwoduo announced her commitment to the Lady Vols on Friday afternoon.
Oboavwoduo, a 5-foot-10 guard from Manchester, United Kingdom, plays for the Great Britain national team. She took an official visit to Tennessee earlier this month.
Cincinnati and Purdue were also in the mix for the talented guard.
“Irene is a long, versatile wing with a natural feel for the game,” said former Boston College coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee last fall when Oboavwoduo signed. “She plays with a maturity beyond her years, has a smooth mid-range game, and is a relentless rebounder.”
Oboavwoduo reopened her recruitment after Bernabei-McNamee was fired this spring.
Kim Caldwell and the Lady Vols are off to a fast start this offseason
It’s been a productive offseason for Caldwell as the Lady Vols have added five transfer players in addition to landing Oboavwoduo.
Caldwell’s offseason has gone well enough that she was praised by Tennessee athletic director Danny White earlier this week.
“I’m proud of Kim as a leader,” said White on WNML’s SportsTalk. “Coaching is a complex profession. Talented coaches tend to excel early in their career — this is all different coaches in all different sports — in their ability to connect with athletes, and know the game, motivate, and all of those things.
“But as you rise in the profession — and in this instance, take over bigger organizations — management and being a CEO is really important, too. And I admire how Kim, coming off of a disappointing year two, after a really exciting year one, evaluated changes that needed to be made in our program and made them pretty decisively and aggressively. And I think we’re in a great place now.”
