Latest NFL blockbuster trade might have been the domino to upend Jalin Hyatt’s future in New York

Jalin Hyatt’s time in New York has been underwhelming, and a fresh start elsewhere could be what he needs. Perhaps the Giants’ latest trade will help that come to fruition.

Things have been like oil and water for former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt during his time in the Big Apple.

The VFL was drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New York Giants with the hopes that his big play ability would help jump start the G-Men’s passing attack. Through three seasons, that hasn’t happened, as Hyatt’s small role has gradually decreased in his time there.

Now, a trade involving one of his locker room mates could be a domino that ends up pushing his time in New York to an end. Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence was dealt on Saturday night from New York to the Cincinnati Bengals. In return, the Giants received the Bengals’ No. 10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

And as it turns out, it appears the Giants have significant interest in Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson. As NFL insider Mike Garafolo noted, Giants GM Joe Schoen attended Tyson’s private workout on Friday and had dinner with him the night before.

Giants could be in position to draft another wide receiver in the top 10 in Jordyn Tyson

No. 10 feels like a logical landing spot for Tyson, and if the Giants are that interested, it looks like they could add another dynamic talent alongside their WR1 in Malik Nabers.

And, obviously, if that was to happen, it would push the wide receiver room pecking order down one spot behind Nabers. Given how Hyatt was a non-factor in New York last year — he had career lows in games (8), catches (5), and yards (35) — he could be the one that ultimately gets squeezed out in such a situation.

Hyatt and the Giants, frankly, need a divorce from each other, so if this were to happen, it’s not the worst thing in the world for him. Sometimes a change of scenery, coaching, gameplan/scheme, etc. can make a major difference for a player. For Vol fans hoping Hyatt makes that turnaround, this might be a situation to help that come to fruition.
