Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Vols have reportedly expressed interest in a coveted ACC transfer in recent days

Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Vols aren’t messing around this offseason. The Volunteers are clearly motivated to build a championship-caliber roster after coming up just short of the Final Four this past season.

The Tennessee Vols have made some big moves this offseason in the NCAA transfer portal — the Volunteers landed VCU transfer guard Terrence Hill Jr over the weekend (UT’s fifth portal addition) — and the program isn’t done yet.

Tennessee is still in the mix for some big-time targets, including Wake Forest transfer guard Juke Harris.

Another player the Vols have reportedly expressed interest in recently is Syracuse transfer forward Donnie Freeman.

Tennessee has reportedly expressed “some interest” in Donnie Freeman

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Tennessee has expressed “some interest” in Freeman in recent days.

Tipton, however, suggested that Tennessee is “not a major player” for the Syracuse transfer.

“Tennessee has also expressed some interest in Freeman in recent days, but at this point, it appears the Volunteers are not a major player,” wrote Tipton on Monday.

Freeman, 6-foot-9/205 pounds from Washington D.C., averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while playing 31.3 minutes per game at Syracuse this past season. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Syracuse beat Tennessee this past season in the ACC/SEC Challenge, but Freeman missed that game due to injury.

We’ll see if the Vols circle back to Freeman. For now, though, it sounds like St. John’s is the most likely landing spot for the talented forward.
