Kim Caldwell just landed ‘one of the best forwards still available’ as Lady Vols maintain strong push
Caldwell and Tennessee closed the deal with an SEC standout at a position of relative need on Tuesday.
The Tennessee Lady Vols are heading back in the right direction, and the momentum seems to grow stronger with each day in what’s been a rollercoaster month of April for the program.
Every single player eligible to return hit the transfer portal, with five-star Oliviyah Edwards backing out of her letter of intent. It left Kim Caldwell with a ton of work to do to pull the program up from the rock bottom place it sunk following a first-round NCAA Tournament exit.
But lift the program up she has, and hit continued on Tuesday. Per On3 Sports’ Talia Goodman, Texas A&M forward Fatmata Janneh committed to Caldwell and the Lady Vols.
Tennessee lands commitment from Texas A&M forward Fatmata Janneh
Goodman wrote over the weekend that Tennessee was a team to watch for Janneh, and that certainly turned out to be the case.
“Texas A&M transfer Fatmata Janneh is one of the best forwards still available in the transfer portal,” Goodman wrote. “The 6-2 junior from England averaged 11.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game last season for the Aggies.
“Sources told On3 that Tennessee is currently a school to watch here.”
Janneh was fresh off a visit to Knoxville, which she posted an image of on her Instagram account. Apparently, she liked what she saw to go ahead and pull the trigger on the Big Orange.
Tennessee’s transfer portal class now includes guards Naiomi White (Northern Arizona), Rylie Theuerkauf (Georgia), Avery Mills (Liberty), and Harissoum Coulibaly (Auburn), along with forwards Janneh, Zhen Craft (Georgia), and Harper Peterson (Stanford). Signees Gabby Minus and Irene Oboavwoduo, both guards, are still on track to join the program.
