Major transfer portal target for Kim Caldwell leaves no doubt on social media that she visited Tennessee

Tennessee appears firmly in the hunt for one of the top forwards available in the transfer portal.

The Lady Vols are finally starting to get back into decent shape roster wise. After a mass exodus that saw every player eligible to return depart via the transfer portal, as well as five-star signee Oliviyah Edwards back out of her letter of intent to Tennessee, there was nowhere to go but up.

Kim Caldwell has certainly righted the ship when it comes to the backcourt. She has added potential impact players, such as Naiomi White (Northern Arizona), Rylie Theuerkauf (Georgia), and Avery Mills (Liberty).

The frontcourt has had some additions as well, such as Theuerkauf’s former Georgia teammate Zhen Craft and Harper Peterson (Stanford).

However, a true scorer near the basket is needed, and Caldwell has the attention of one of the best in the portal. Texas A&M forward Fatmata Janneh visited Tennessee this week, as evidenced by the image she posted on her Instagram story on Monday that shows the inside of the Lady Vols’ facility.

Janneh, who hails from London, England, isn’t super long in the post at 6-2, but she is adept on the glass and as an offensive threat.

In 2024-25 at St. Peters, she averaged 18.2 points per game and 11.6 rebounds per game across 33 games. Last year at Texas A&M, she averaged 11.4 ppg and 9.7 rpg in 27 games, all of which she started. She also was terrific at the free throw line, going 83.8% (62-74).

The transfer portal closed on Monday night, so, absent exceptions, such as graduate transfers, the pool of players is now set, and the pressure is on to land them. We’ll see if Caldwell can close the deal with Janneh and continue the strong momentum she’s built over the last couple of weeks.
