The Green Bay Packers only had Matthew Golden and Savion Williams under contract at wide receiver beyond 2026. Not anymore. Right ahead of Day 2 of the draft, the Packers reached a contract extension with Jayden Reed. It’s a three-year, $50.25 million deal that keeps Reed in Green Bay through 2029.

Efficiency

The decision to keep Jayden Reed stabilizes the wide receiver room. Drafted in the second round back in 2023, Reed led the team in receiving yards in his first two NFL seasons, until a broken collarbone forced him to miss 10 games last year.

Despite missing time, Reed was still one of the most efficient parts of the Packers’ offense, with 1.83 yards per route run and a 121.0 passer rating when targeted.

Wide receiver situation

The decision to extend Reed is relevant because it eases the Packers’ need to draft a wide receiver. Now, Golden, Williams, and Reed are all under contract for multiple years down the road — and Green Bay can still extend Christian Watson as well.

The Packers lost Romeo Doubs to the New England Patriots in free agency ($17 million a year). Then, traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 fifth- and a 2027 sixth-round pick. Wicks got a one-year, $12.5 million contract extension with the Eagles — and considering the gap in production and earnings, the Packers got a good deal with Reed. For the player, it’s also a positive deal because he gets $20 million guaranteed and it’s not a long extension, so he has the potential to return to the market sooner.

Jayden Reed has had 138 receptions for 1,857 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in three years for the Packers, in addition to 34 rushing attempts for 310 yards and three TDs. Primarily a slot receiver, Reed has been one of the most consistent and effective offensive weapons on the roster.

Especially because Golden and Williams haven’t established themselves in the NFL at this point, it was important for the Packers to keep a veteran — and Jayden Reed isn’t going anywhere.
