The Pittsburgh Steelers made two picks before 76 overall, and most people felt they balanced each other out. After making what many deemed a panic pick in Round 1, the Steelers traded up and hit a home run at WR with Germie Bernard in round two.

But then came round three, and let’s just say the Steelers ruffled some feathers.

Steelers select Drew Allar with pick 76 in 2026 NFL Draft

Allar is a polarizing player because if you just look at him throw pat, and go, he looks the top pick in the NFL Draft. The size, the arm, the mobility, he has traits in spades. The problem is, he lacks the intangibles and footwork to start in the NFL. He’s a project, and in the third round, that may be a little rich for some teams.

What are the Steelers getting from Drew Allar?

“If we were talking about Drew Allar at this time last year, it would be a discussion about him going in the top-five. Allar has all the tools to be an elite NFL quarterback. However, things didn’t end up that way. Allar didn’t live up to his expectations this year. He struggled with his decision-making, processing, and making accurate throws.”

“He never lived up to his tools, mainly because of what he has between the ears. Considering we have three years of starting tape of Allar, his potential may not come to fruition. Allar should be looked at as a high-upside option on day three, but expectations should be tempered.” – Tyler Forness, A to Z Sports NFL Draft

Final Grade: C

If Allar hits, the Pittsburgh Steelers just found their starting quarterback for years to come in the third round. But when the team had other needs, taking at best a backup quarterback, is a bit rich.
