The Oklahoma Sooners just landed defensive tackle Sione Felila, a 2027 three-star recruit who can easily be a four-star by the time he gets on campus.

This comes one day after losing three-star running back Jaxsen Stokes. Felila chose the Sooners over teams like Notre Dame, Cal, and Oregon. The Sooners are winning battles for elite defensive recruits over other blue-blood schools, and this is a significant win when you realize how many of these big defensive linemen they have in the class.

Oklahoma is set to bring in Deven Robertson, Elija Harmon, and now Felila—all of these guys are big defensive tackles who could play anywhere from the nose to 3T. This was a big win for the Sooners, but what exactly are they getting? Sooner Scoop’s Josh McCuistion broke down some of his tape perfectly.

“It’s easy to see the pop and violence in his hands and assume Felila’s strength comes from his upper body, but that’s a part of his game that will only get better. But where his true strength lies in his lower half. Whether it’s anchoring down and stopping a double team or simply using his power for a vicious hip toss, Felila is nearly impossible to move off the spot.

“And though that strength is the hallmark of his game, he’s not a one-trick pony. He uses those violent hands well in swim moves or to simply stun a blocker and create a little space for himself to work in. But that would be meaningless if it weren’t for Felila having some good quickness to attack the space he creates for himself.” – Josh McCuistion, Sooner Scoop

The Sooners have had an elite defensive line over the last two years, and they should have one again this year. They have done it by getting the best players that no one is talking about. Not all of these guys have been five stars or even four stars. Sure, some have, but guys like Jayden Jackson, who started as a three-star true freshman, are how OU has made their money in the trenches. Felila could be the next player like that.
