Notre Dame football is set to make a strong push for one of the more talented quarterbacks in the country after some early momentum
Notre Dame football has early eyes on an ultra-talented 2028 quarterback. They seem to have him on the short list of top targets.
While the attention has mostly been on the 2027 recruiting class for Notre Dame football, head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish have quietly been hosting several elite 2028 recruiting targets, as well. That includes Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell quarterback Kingston Preyear, who is considered to be one of the top signal callers in his class. Preyear visited South Bend a few weeks ago.
Notre Dame appears to have been impressed with their early introduction to Preyear. They extended an offer to him this week, which was one of two offers for 2028 quarterback targets. The Irish staff also offered 2028 Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage signal caller Neimann Lawrence, who visited South Bend this offseason, as well.
When it comes to pure talent, there is a lot to love about Preyear. With how well Notre Dame has recruited the position over the years, including CJ Carr, Kenny Minchey, Blake Hebert, Noah Grubbs, Teddy Jarrard, and potentially Champ Monds, the Irish staff can now shoot for the stars in the 2028 class. Preyear and Lawrence indicate their push for an elite signal caller.
Just how much of a chance that Notre Dame has with Preyear is uncertain at this time. There is clearly some interest from the Alabama native, considering he already made an unofficial visit. Given that Preyear is based in the country, there is going to be some high demand for the talented signal caller. It appears that the Irish are ready for that battle, and it’ll be interesting to keep tabs on.
Kingston Preyear’s recruiting background
Preyear is considered to be a four-star and top-75 player by both 247 Sports and On3, while ESPN has not ranked him quite yet. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Preyear currently sits as the No. 53 overall player, the No. 4 quarterback, and the No. 3 player from the state of Alabama for the 2028 recruiting class.
Like those rankings, the offer list for Preyear is also extremely impressive early. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida State, Auburn, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Colorado, Houston, Arizona, and Purdue, amongst others.
As a sophomore this past season, Preyear put together a tremendous season for Benjamin Russell. In 14 games, the 6-3, 195-pound passer managed to throw for 3,026 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also added another 518 yards and two scores as a runner, while throwing just five interceptions.
