The Miami Dolphins will have their work cut out for them if they want an encore of their biggest win from this spring
The Miami Dolphins want to build through the draft. Where do they stand for the 2027 NFL Draft?
Miami Dolphins fans were, for once, spoiled during the late April action of the 2026 NFL Draft. After several seasons of deficient NFL Draft capital, the Dolphins drafted 13 players in this year’s event.
It’s a presumed hallmark and staple of new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan’s approach to team-building. So, yes. It’s been a while since Miami drafted that much (either early or in total volume). But it’s something we should expect to see more. But getting similar volume for next year could be easier said than done. What does the Miami Dolphins’ 2027 NFL Draft capital look like with this year’s draft in the rear-view mirror?
Currently projected 2027 NFL Draft selections for the Miami Dolphins

- 1st Round Selection (own pick)
- 2nd Round Selection (0wn pick)
- 3rd Round Selection (0wn pick)
- 4th Round Selection (0wn pick)
- 5th Round Selection (0wn pick)
- 5th Round Selection (via Pittsburgh – Jalen Ramsey/Jonnu Smith trade)
- 6th Round Selection (0wn pick)
- 7th Round Selection* (via New York Giants – Darren Waller trade; conditional selection)
- 7th Round Selection** (projected compensatory pick – OL Larry Borom)
The good news for the Miami Dolphins? They’re guaranteed to have their own draft pick in each of the first six rounds of the 2027 NFL Draft as of right now. They’ll also have a surplus fifth-round draft choice courtesy of last summer’s deal of Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh.
But there’s no extra picks currently scheduled in the top-100. The Miami Dolphins also havs some unknowns with their seventh-round schedule. One is a projected compensatory pick and the other was a conditional draft choice that was apart of the pick swap to acquire TE Darren Waller last July.
Jon-Eric Sullivan and company will be a safe bet to be seeking to add more picks instead of less next spring. Although their pathway to doing so may be more limited next offseason as compared to what we saw this time around. Miami will, hopefully, have less established player on the block. If that is indeed the case, the avenue Miami pursued twice during the NFL Draft last month feels like the safest bet.
The Dolphins traded down twice, including once from the No. 11 overall pick. The appetite for a trade down next year? Some of that figures to be factored by QB Malik Willis’ play and the state of the 2027 quarterback class. But we’ve got lots of time to sort that out. What we know right now is that the Miami Dolphins are going to have some work ahead of them if they want an encore performance of volume in the 2027 NFL Draft.
