Anonymous NFL executive has a depressing message when it comes to the future of Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen and the Bills are hoping the promotion of Joe Brady can help them finally get to the Super Bowl, but one NFL executive believes the days of expecting a championship are over.
Super Bowl windows don’t last long in the NFL. It’s why teams go full bore whenever they realize their window is open.
Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have been shooting their shot for several years, now, but with zero success. They’ve gotten close, but each postseason has ended in heartbreak for the last six seasons.
It feels like the Super Bowl is always possible with Allen behind center, but one NFL executive recently told The Athletic he believes the Bills’ Super Bowl window has closed.
“I think Buffalo’s window has closed. New England will regress. I’d never bet against (Patrick) Mahomes and Andy Reid playing their best when it matters.”

The postseason failures were used as the catalyst behind Sean McDermott’s firing and it makes sense, as it became quite clear he couldn’t get the Bills over the hump. The hope is Joe Brady, even as a first-time head coach, can help fix that.
Is the Super Bowl window actually closed for Josh Allen and the Bills?
It’s honestly hard to say. Allen is only 29 years old and top quarterbacks are playing well into their 30s these days, sometimes even longer.
A big chunk of it depends on the Brady Effect (no, not Tom anymore). The Bills are taking on a pretty big gamble with Brady, even when factoring in his familiarity with Allen and keeping the same offense in place. There are always ups and downs with a first-year head coach and frankly, the Bills can’t afford to take on too many of the downs if they want to reach the Super Bowl.
On paper, the Bills still look pretty damn good. There are some questions, but what NFL team is without those? They have good players in key positions and there is pretty solid depth at certain positions, as well.
But it’s never been the talent that’s the issue. It’s why the Bills have been considering Super Bowl contenders the last few years. Along with Allen, the Bills roster has been good enough to make it all the way to the big game.
It’s been a combination of coaching and not being able to execute in the big moments that have held the Bills back. Even with last year’s officiating choke job.
It’s not easy to get out of the “intangible” aspects of losing. Especially in the playoffs. So, there is some logic behind the executive’s statement.
Will said logic turn into truth? We’ll have to wait and see. But still, even then, it’s hard to say with confidence that the Bills’ Super Bowl window is closed as long as Allen is around and playing well.
