The Ohio State football program finished spring practice a couple of weeks ago, and most of the focus has been on recruiting since then. Ohio State has been out on the road visiting top targets and current commitments.

2027 is going to be an interesting class for the Buckeyes, especially at the most important position in the game. Ohio State already has one commitment at QB with four-star Brady Edmunds, but now they’re going after a Big Ten rival’s top commitment.

Ohio State is pushing for an elite Nebraska commitment in 2027

Ohio State wants to add a second quarterback in the class of 2027. With Edmunds taking visits elsewhere, there’s no lock on him staying in this class. The Buckeyes have had Edmunds committed since 2024 and that’s a long time for a high school player to be committed to a college. It’s unclear if Ohio State wants another player at the position because they aren’t sold on Edmunds, or if it’s genuinely because they want more depth in terms of youth.

According to Rivals’ Allen Trieu, Ohio State has recently visited with four-star Nebraska commitment QB Trae Taylor. Taylor is a 6-foot-3, 192-pound quarterback who has been committed to the Cornhuskers since May 2025, and now the Buckeyes are trying to get involved.

Taylor is the No. 4 quarterback in the class and No. 60 player nationally in the class of 2027, per 247 Sports’ Composite. 247’s Andrew Ivins has compared Taylor to former Buckeye C.J. Stroud as a quarterback.

“Precision passer with a good feel for the position that has a chance to emerge as a trusted facilitator on Saturdays and then potentially Sunday,” Ivins noted.

Ohio State is expected to turn the heat up on recruiting Taylor, but it won’t be easy. The talented quarterback has been recruiting for the Cornhuskers and is expected to play his senior season of football in Nebraska.

Getting Taylor on campus is the big step Ohio State will need to happen to have a chance at flipping him. It’s only the spring before Taylor’s season, and there’s a lot of time before he makes anything official in writing.

It’s a key development for the future of the Buckeyes that they’re going after another quarterback for 2027, and not just any. Taylor is a high-profile gun slinger at the position and is the kind of talent that could eventually be a starting quarterback at Ohio State.
