Another Big Ten team is trying to flip Ohio State football’s future quarterback, and the door looks to be open
We’re entering a crucial recruiting period for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State is dealing with another Big Ten school showing major interest in one of its most important commitments.
Ohio State football has 11 commitments in the class of 2027 so far as they enter a crucial recruiting period. Ohio State coaches will be on the road this week recruiting, and in the coming weeks, a ton of visits will take place to Columbus.
One interesting note about the class is that Ohio State is still looking for a second quarterback to add in the class. The Buckeyes were in the mix for 2027 Champ Monds last week before he chose Notre Dame. With the Buckeyes after another quarterback besides the already committed Brady Edmunds, it could cause issues.
Ohio State has a QB worry on its hands in 2027
Edmunds has been committed since December 2024 to play for the Buckeyes. It was a very early commitment for Ohio State, but one they took from one of the top quarterbacks in the class at the time. Since then, Edmunds has slipped to being the No. 18 quarterback in the class, according to 247 Sports’ Composite.
Ohio State wanting to add a second quarterback is a risk to take and one that could very well push Edmunds out of the class. The 6-foot-5 California native has been forced to keep his options open more so lately, and he’s been giving attention to a school close to home.
The UCLA Bruins are on a hot streak on the recruiting front and they’re very much interested in the Ohio State commitment. Bob Chesney has come in and ignited UCLA recruiting and Edmunds has been on the Bruins campus since his arrival. A two-quarterback class isn’t ideal for a recruit, so it’s hard to blame Edmunds.
From Ohio State’s view, the biggest reason they want to add another quarterback is depth. Julian Sayin could edit after this season, and Maryland transfer Justyn Martin will be out of eligibility. Tavien St. Clair and current freshman Luke Fahey would be the only two quarterbacks on the roster.
This summer will be telling on what’s going to happen with Edmunds. With him giving attention to UCLA and other programs, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up out of this class for Ohio State.
