Keionte Scott reveals details on offseason surgery and gives update on whether or not he’ll be around for Buccaneers training camp
Scott revealed he had offseason wrist surgery when he spoke with Buccaneers reporters on Friday and it was a bit of a surprise. However, it sounds like everything is on track for training camp.
There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie cornerback Keionte Scott and it’s easy to see why.
The kid perfectly fits the mold of a Buccaneers cornerback. He’s feisty, aggressive, physical, and is all about business. The sky is the limit for him at the nickel position, especially when considering how Todd Bowles deploys his nickelbacks.
The Buccaneers may not be able to see him in full action until training camp, though. Scott revealed Friday that he’s on the back end of offseason wrist surgery, but it’s unclear if he’ll be ready to practice in OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
“It was something that was bothering me, but now we’re on the better side of it,” Scott told reporters. “I just got the plate out of it… the cast will come off in 10 days. I was going through it throughout the playoffs and it was something that was bugging me all year. I got it taken care of it before the combine. I didn’t want it to get flagged, so now we’re on the back end of it.”
Scott was later asked about any limitations and he didn’t really specify, however, he did say he expects to be ready for training camp.
“I’m just following whatever the trainers have for me,” said Scott. “And like I said, [in] 10 days this will come off, and then from there, it’s, you know, however far I can go and get strong as fast as I can.”
Keionte Scott’s injury history is a bit worrisome after the surgery news and it could bite the Buccaneers
Scott’s recovery is going well, obviously, but it’s another mark in a long history for the former Hurricane.
Per The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, Scott suffered an ankle sprain in September 2023 that required tightrope surgery. He made what was deemed a miraculous recovery and only missed three games. Then, he suffered a right foot injury in November 2025. Many thought he’d be out for the year, but he returned for the College Football Playoff.
Now, it’s the wrist. Scott’s ability to bounce back and play well after injuries is impressive. At the same time, though, the injury list is getting longer. It doesn’t help Scott is an undersized player who plays a lot bigger than his stature, either.
Overall, it sounds like things are in a good spot. However, this is definitely a new addition to the long list of storylines to keep up with during the Buccaneers’ offseason.
