The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and star defensive lineman Vita Vea can finally close the book on their dispute.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bucs and Vea agreed to a one-year contract extension for $30 million. As part of the deal, he gets $6 million in new money to his current agreement for 2026.

Per FOX Sports’ Greg Auman, the $30 million is total new money, with the $6 million making Vea set to earn $24 million in both 2026 and 2027, with both years now fully guaranteed.

Vita Vea gets one-year, $30 million contract extension from the Bucs that ties him to Tampa through 2027

Given that Vea felt (rightfully so) that he was underpaid for the level of production that he had delivered, giving him an immediate bump along with an extension at the level they reached feels like a fair middle ground for both sides.

Vea has been one of the best in the NFL in production from the defensive tackle position when it comes to creating pressure. Per Pro Football Focus, his 101 QB pressures and 11.5 sacks over the last two years ranks third and second in the NFL, respectively. That certainly warranted a raise from where he was at.

For the Bucs, it’s a figure that still ranks well below the top of the market when it comes to the defensive tackle position. The most recent deals between the Eagles and Jalen Carter and the Cowboys and Quinnen Williams came in for 3+ years with an average annual value of more than $35 million per year. And with Vea at age 31, it gives the Bucs a bit of a short term to evaluate his productivity without getting locked into perhaps years that are trending down for him.

It looks and feels like a win-win for the player and the team. Now, we’ll see if the big tackle can live up to that increased pay day and help turn around a Bucs defense that fell apart late last year.
