Bucs’ Vita Vea breaks his silence on social media with a short but blunt post aimed straight at the Bucs
Tampa Bay’s star defender makes a very simple message to the organization amid their ongoing contract dispute.
The standoff between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their star defensive tackle Vita Vea continues without a resolution as we approach the Bucs’ first preseason action of 2026 on Friday night against the New York Jets.
Vea continues his hold in at camp, as he continues to protest a lack of a long-term contract extension with the team. While Vea has refused to participate in practice, he hasn’t gone public on social media regarding his demands about the lack of what he feels is a competitive offer from the organization.
Well, until Wednesday, that is.
NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo put up a post on Twitter (X) showing the leaders in quarterback pressures and sacks from the defensive tackle position over the last two years, according to Pro Football Focus. Vea is up there, with 101 pressures and 11.5 sacks credited to him by PFF.
Vea responded with a post where he quote tweeted Garafolo’s post with a shrugging emoji.

Vea posting on Twitter (X) isn’t something that happens all that often. Vea’s most recent post before his one on Wednesday came back in January, a re-post of someone else. Before that, he posted in September 2025.
Garafolo noted in his post that the line of communication remains open between the Bucs and Vea, unlike with the negotiation between Baker Mayfield and the team being put on the shelf until after the season.
And the deals have come in for defensive tackles in recent weeks, with Jalen Carter and Quinnen Williams both coming to nine-figure extensions with the Eagles and Cowboys, respectively. While that seems out of play for Vea, he has produced well enough to earn more than the $18 million on the final year of his deal.
We’ll continue to wait and see if the sides can come to an agreement before the start of the season. But one thing is clear: Vea believes his production has spoken for itself the last couple of years.
