The deal is worth up to $160 million with incentives, putting Carter at $38 million per year with a ceiling of $40 million and $106 million of the deal is guaranteed.

Jeffrey Simmons reset the defensive tackle market at $35 million per year, so $38 million for a player of Carter’s caliber feels right. Carter is younger, more dynamic, and arguably more disruptive than Simmons. The price tag reflects that.
