Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers football program ended the week with some not very positive news. Heupel and the Vols missed on a key recruit who ended up committing to an SEC rival
Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols ended the week by coming out on the wrong side of a recruiting battle.
And to make matters worse, the Vols lost the recruiting battle to a top SEC rival.
2027 four-star running back Andrew Beard committed to the Florida Gators on Friday afternoon.
Beard committed to the Gators over Tennessee, Clemson, and Georgia.
“Development was a big thing in this decision,” said Beard to Rivals after committing to Florida. “That matters the most to me, and they develop running backs and get them to the next level. Coach (Chris) Foster is a great coach, and my goal is to get to the NFL, and I feel he can help me do that.”
Beard, 5-foot-10/197 pounds from Bogart, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 running back in the nation and the No. 14 player in the state of Georgia.
In January, On3’s Steve Wiltfong reported that Tennessee was the “early leader” for four-star running back Andrew Beard, but things changed over the last few months.
Tennessee’s top 2027 running back target is five-star recruit David Gabriel Georges. The Vols, however, are expected to take two running backs in the 2027 class. Beard was an option, but Tennessee’s full attention will now likely turn to Asa Barnes, a 2027 three-star running back from Martin, TN.
