A former Tennessee Vols wide receiver is reportedly retiring from the NFL without ever playing in a game.

On Monday, the Chicago Bears placed rookie wide receiver Squirrel White on the reserve/retired list.

White landed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

According to The Chicago Tribune’s Sean Hammond, White participated in Bears rookie minicamp over the weekend, but he was seen exiting practice on Saturday with trainers during the stretching period.

It’s unclear why White, who spent his final season of eligibility at Florida State, is retiring from the NFL, but it’s worth noting that he mentioned a year ago that he suffered a PCL sprain during his final season (2024) at Tennessee.

“I’ve been able to get more work (during spring practice) coming off a PCL sprain,” said White last spring. “Just getting out there and doing as much as I can with limited reps… It’s something I was dealing with, before I got here (FSU), at Tennessee.”

Squirrel White spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee

White spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee before transferring to Florida State.

His best season came in 2023 when he caught 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns. The Alabama native finished his Tennessee career with 131 receptions for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns.

White didn’t find much success at Florida State, catching just five passes for 52 yards during his lone season in Tallahassee.

The former Vol, however, did go viral at Florida State when he was caught among Virginia fans who stormed the field after beating the Seminoles in Charlottesville last September.

Fortunately, White was fine after disappearing beneath hundreds of Virginia fans.
