Earlier on Monday, we did a prediction on who the Detroit Lions could play on primetime during the 2026 season, and we kind of nailed it when we predicted that the Lions would almost certainly get paired up with the Buffalo Bills on primetime.

The Lions will play the Bills in Buffalo on Thursday Night Football in Week 2

The reason I say “kind of” is that this felt like a Monday Night Football or Sunday Night Football kind of affair. Still, primetime in any way always made a ton of sense.

The Lions and Bills have faced off twice in the Dan Campbell era, and both games were certified bangers. The first matchup was on Thanksgiving in 2022, and it was really a coming-out party for the Lions. They lost 28-25, but the game ended with Tony Romo repeatedly saying that “The Detroit Lions are for real.” They continued their magical run down the stretch.

Then again in 2024. The Lions lost this one as well, but it was a fun 48-42 shootout that maybe the Lions could have won had they remained healthy on defense. As we know, they did not, and it ended their season early in the playoffs.

This coming season, a lot of things are the same. It’s still Jared Goff vs Josh Allen and James Cook vs Jahmyr Gibbs. But this time, there is no Sean McDermott. The Bills let him go after their loss to the Broncos in the playoffs. Joe Brady is the head coach now. Also, the Lions are going on the road this time and will be the first opponent for the Bills in their new stadium.
