The Miami Dolphins are among a handful of teams taking the next step of their offseason program on Monday
The Miami Dolphins are among the teams who are one step closer to the return of football on Monday.
Welcome, Miami Dolphins fans!
We have officially made it another step closer to football. No, I’m not talking about last week’s schedule release. Nor am I talking about the contract extension of running back De’Von Achane. Or Aaron Rodgers ending his annual “ho-hum”, either. No, instead, the Miami Dolphins are among the handful of NFL franchises who get to kick off the next round of their offseason program on Monday. Welcome to Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
The Miami Dolphins are among eight teams to start OTAs on Monday

There are eight NFL franchises who have their first OTA session today. Those teams include:
- The Miami Dolphins
- The Buffalo Bills
- The Baltimore Ravens
- The Pittsburgh Steelers
- The Tennessee Titans
- The Las Vegas Raiders
- The Atlanta Falcons
- The Arizona Cardinals
So what are Organized Team Activities? It serves as the final four week phase of every team’s offseason program. Teams with changes at head coach get their calendars moved up to help account for the staff changes for each team. Here’s the key detail you need to know. OTAs do not permit full contact. But they do allow collections of players to be on the field together, be that in 7-on-7, 9-on-9, or 11-on-11 setting.
Up until this point in the offseason program, the teams have not been allowed to line offensive and defensive players up across from one another for drills or periods.
And so, in that sense, today’s opening of the third phase of the offseason program is a step closer to football. You may not be able to see it or feel it where you sit. But it IS there. And for the Miami Dolphins and the seven other teams kicking things off this week, it’s a big deal. Rejoice, OTAs are underway in South Florida.
