Keeping Chris Henry Jr. in the fold was a major task the Ohio State Buckeyes had to complete in the winter after Brian Hartline’s exit. Henry turned down big-time offers from other schools to stick with his commitment to play for Ohio State.

Henry had a strong spring with the Buckeyes to get acclimated as a college football player. Since he’s been in Columbus, he’s been doing some recruiting for Jake Diebler’s men’s basketball team as well.

Diebler and the Buckeyes were able to land a five-star talent for the current freshman class with F Anthony Thompson. Ohio State already has five-star CG LJ Smith committed for the class of 2026, and they’d like to add another elite talent. Ohio State football’s highly touted freshman happens to have a brother who is an elite basketball prospect that the Buckeyes have offered.

Five-star Compass Prep (AZ) F Demarcus Henry is the No. 14 player nationally, per 247 Sports Composite. He’s been open about both his brother and sister who are at Ohio State trying to get him to do the same.

“They want me to come with them to Ohio State,” Henry said via Rivals. “They talk to me about it all the time. I tell them I’m just trying to do what’s best for me and find the best situation. I’m just going to wait and see what’s the best situation is that’s going to get me to the next level so I’ve got to keep my options open and see what’s the best situation.”

Ohio State has just the one commitment from Smith in 2026 and adding someone like Henry would put them on track for their best class in a long time. However, it’s easier said than done because Henry is keeping his options open, and not letting his siblings fully impact things.

”(Ohio State) is still an option but I’m really open to everything still,” Henry stated. “Looking at every program, just trying to find the best fit for me and my future.”

The Buckeyes have to battle a slew of schools in this recruitment. Kansas, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina, BYU, and USC are among the schools that have extended an offer. With two siblings already in Columbus, Ohio State has a connection that other schools can’t offer. It’ll be a recruitment worth following the rest of this year.
