Michigan Wolverines set to battle against multiple hated rivals in its heated pursuit of a former Big Ten commit
The Michigan Wolverines are making a strong push for a former Big Ten commit. Multiple hated rivals are standing in the way.
The Michigan Wolverines are riding some strong recruiting momentum lately under head coach Kyle Whittingham. With some key additions to the 2027 recruiting class recently, there’s an expectation that even more good news could be on the horizon. That’s especially true with the official visit season coming up quickly.
Michigan is expected to host 2027 Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton cornerback Monsanna Torbert Jr. for an official visit in June. Torbert will also be checking out both Ohio State and Notre Dame for official visits as well. Things have been happening quickly since the talented cover man opted to decommit from the Indiana Hoosiers this week.
As of today, Michigan holds three defensive back commits for its 2027 recruiting class. That includes legacy recruit Charles Woodson Jr., cornerback Darius Johnson, and safety Maxwell Miles. Adding someone like Torbert would be a fantastic addition if they are able to get it done over the next couple of months.
Based on some early conversations about Torbert, it does sound like the Buckeyes are the team that could have the inside track for Torbert. This would be a slight upset for the Wolverines, who are set to battle against a couple of hated rivals. The next several weeks will go a long way toward determining where Torbert ends up.
Monsanna Torbert Jr.’s recruiting background
Torbert is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Torbert sits as the No. 139 overall player, the No. 16 cornerback, and the No. 6 player from the state of Ohio for the 2027 recruiting class right now.
There have been some impressive programs that have continued to push for Torbert, even after he committed to Indiana this past January. Some of the teams that have offered the Ohio native include the Wolverines, the Hoosiers, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Florida State, Missouri, Auburn, Iowa, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Maryland, Louisville, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, and Purdue, among several others.
As a junior in 2025, Torbert put together a tremendous season for Princeton. In 10 games, the 5-10, 158-pound cover man recorded 40 total tackles, 3 interceptions, and 3 more pass breakups. He is also a dual-threat quarterback who threw for 1,791 yards and 26 touchdowns, while also rushing for 450 yards and four more scores. Although he is small, Torbert is a tremendous overall athlete who can do a lot of things for a team.
