The Miami Dolphins‘ 2026 season is going to be defined, in part, by their quarterback transition.

Miami is going to be paying for their last quarterback in 2026, but they’ve also secured their next one. The move from Tua Tagovailoa to Malik Willis certainly brings more upside but it also brings more questions. Opinions this offseason lie across the full spectrum and they’re likely to continue to do so until we start playing games for keeps. One notable voice in the quarterback landscape, however, seems to strongly believe the Miami Dolphins have gotten better behind center.

Chris Simms heaps praise on Miami Dolphins QB Malik Willis, ranks him 19th among NFL quarterbacks this summer

Simms ranked Malik Willis 19th among NFL quarterbacks in this summer’s annual exercise. It’s not within the upper echelon of passers in the league but considering his limited sample size, it should serve instead as a testament to his natural gifts and raw potential. Conversely, Tagovailoa barely cracked the top-40. Simms ranked him 36th.

As it pertains to Willis, Simms had nothing but praise about his game.

“I think (Willis has) got superstar talent. That’s why I got him there. And you know, I know the film is limited, but the film is superstar-ish, too. I’m just going to say it…Malik Willis’s best throws are up there with the superstars of the sport. And then, of course, his athletic ability and what he does there is incredible. His playmaking, his running, his extending, all of that. The only thing there’s to questioning is just yeah, the amount of reps and games and and just information we have in them,” said Simms.

“This year on film was borderline perfect. I mean, borderline perfect. He never missed a throw. If it was there, he hit it. And then of course he hit throws where I’d go only like Josh Allen and you know the top quarterbacks in the sport. Lamar hit that kind of throw. So he’s got some plays like that where you just go that’s special. Like I don’t know what anybody’s looking at. And then of course when he takes off and does that the decision making and how he sees the field is really damn good, too.”

If Simms is right, odds are Miami Dolphins fans will be happy about the outcome.
