Andy Reid’s latest update reveals Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy’s progress as he recovers from 2025 shoulder injury
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy is making good progress as he works his way back from surgery to repair a torn labrum. Andy Reid is confident that he’s in a good spot, but knows he needs to continue to move in the right direction.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was spotted wearing the yellow non-contact jersey at practice during the first week of OTAs. Andy Reid explained this is natural for players who undergo surgery during the offseason. Worthy, of course, had surgery to repair a torn labrum back in January. He sustained the injury during Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season and played through it all year long.
Speaking to media members on Thursday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave an update on Worthy as he heads into Year 3.
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy working toward making 2026 his best year yet
Expectations are sky-high for Worthy after his 2025 NFL season fell short of expectations due to injury. Not only did Worthy play through his shoulder injury, but he suffered an ankle injury in Week 5 that caused him to miss time.
What’s his current outlook for the 2026 NFL season? Well, there’s a lot of excitement for the holdovers at wide receiver in Kansas City because of new wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea. Beyond that element, it appears he’s made progress in his rehab and recovery from the torn labrum.
“He (Xavier Worthy) is really doing a nice job,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said on Thursday. “It’s great for him to be able to detail things, and he’s working like crazy at it. I think he feels more comfortable now. He had a couple of things (injuries) cleaned out there, so he’s just feeling good about that, and I think he’s in a good spot. We just don’t want to take any steps back.”
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy Key Stats & Facts
A first-round draft pick out of the University of Texas in 2024, Worthy brings elite speed to the table for Kansas City.
- 2024 stats: 17 games played, 59 receptions, 638 yards, five touchdowns.
- 2025 stats: 14 games played, 42 receptions, 532 yards, one touchdown.
The key moving forward for Worthy is to continue to make progress in his recovery. The last thing he needs is another injury or setback that would derail the momentum he’s building toward the 2026 NFL season. That’s at least part of the reason why the Chiefs have kept him in the yellow non-contact jersey for OTAs. It’s something that could realistically persist through mandatory minicamp and into the early portion of training camp in July. In the long run, this doesn’t seem likely to affect his availability for Week 1’s tilt with the Denver Broncos.
