We’re coming off a big recruiting weekend for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State had several of its top targets in for official visits this weekend, and it’ll play a key part in the eventual decisions made.

There was no more important player on campus in Columbus than Baylor School (TN) five-star RB David Gabriel Georges. The elite running back recruit has finished up his official visit, and it’s even more key coming out of the weekend that the Buckeyes land him.

Ohio State’s all-in approach with David Gabriel Georges could hurt them

As Gabriel-Georges wrapped up his visit to Columbus, another running back the Buckeyes had interest in came off the board. Ohio State has had its eyes on the No. 2 running back in the country, but they have a couple of players out there as fallback options in case they can’t land Gabriel-Georges. One of those options chose to commit to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sunday.

Gainesville (GA) four-star RB Nigel Newkirk committed to Alabama on Sunday, choosing the Tide over Ohio State, Michigan, and LSU.

Ohio State offered Newkirk back in December and was set to host the 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back for an official visit on June 12. The visit will no longer happen and the Buckeyes will have to turn elsewhere if they aren’t able to get Gabriel Georges. Newkirk was the No. 16 player in the class and No. 230 player nationally, per 247 Sports Composite.

With Newkirk off the board, it’s just more important that the Buckeyes don’t strike out with Gabriel Georges. The five-star running back will take all four of his officials before a decision is made in late July. Ohio State is noted to be at the top of his recruitment, but things could change, as we all know.

It’s been no secret for quite some time that the Buckeyes are taking an all-in approach with Gabriel Georges led by running backs coach Carlos Locklyn. Now, they have to make it count.
