The Pittsburgh Steelers are about to embark on the finale of their 2026 offseason. With mandatory minicamp starting this week, the Steelers will gather as a group for a three-day stretch that will serve as a warmup for when the real work begins in late July.

So you might think that the start of June would be slow in the NFL, but it’s quite the contrary. June 1 is a sticking point in many NFL contracts, and we frequently see action in terms of trades. Well, that just so happened to occur on Monday, and it turned out that one of the blockbusters will help the Steelers.

Browns trade Myles Garrett to the Rams

In what will undoubtedly go down as one of the biggest trades in recent NFL history, the AFC North battle between Garrett and Watt has now officially come to an end. For the better part of the last decade, Watt and Garrett had a rivalry that extended into the NFL ether, but was rooted in competitiveness due to their divisional similarities.

From the Steelers’ perspective, this is a major win. It’s not often that you see a Hall of Fame talent, coming off his best season ever, get traded to another team. The Steelers go from having to devise game plans on how to stop Garrett twice a year to no longer having to worry about him as he enters an entirely different conference.

How the Myles Garrett trade helps the Steelers in 2026

Pittsburgh made a lot of moves on the offensive side of the ball this offseason. Most of them were dedicated to becoming more efficient and more explosive. The hiring of Mike McCarthy, the trade for Michael Pittman, the selection of Germie Bernard were all done with getting better on that side of the ball.

But the offensive line in Pittsburgh remains a question mark. Troy Fautanu moves to left tackle, Dylan Cook to right tackle, and there has been a shakeup at guard. We also know the Steelers employ a 42, going on 43-year-old quarterback whose mobility has eroded over the years.

So, not having to deal with arguably the most dominant pass rusher of his generation twice a year, when you have those kinds of question marks, that will certainly help the Steelers in their quest for a return to the playoffs.
