Tennessee Vols sophomore outfielder/infielder Jay Abernathy entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month.

Abernathy, 5-foot-10/188 pounds from Acworth, GA, spent the first two seasons of his college career with the Vols. He batted .255 with four home runs, 27 RBI, and 17 stolen bases during his time with the Volunteers.

The Georgia native is a cousin of former Tennessee defensive back Micah Abernathy.

On3’s Pete Nakos reported last week that Georgia and West Virginia are among the early teams to watch for Abernathy.

On Monday, Nakos reported that Oklahoma has entered the mix for the Tennessee transfer. According to Nakos, Abernathy is planning to visit Oklahoma and West Virginia this week.

“He tells On3 he’s lining up visits to West Virginia and Oklahoma for this week,” wrote Nakos.

West Virginia has already advanced to the College World Series. Oklahoma will advance to the College World Series with a win over Kansas on Monday.

It’s unclear how Abernathy’s visits will play out with both teams potentially preparing for trip to Omaha (West Virginia is scheduled to play Troy at 2:00 PM on Friday in the first game of the College World Series).
