4 Reunions the Detroit Lions could consider after L’Jarius Sneed’s reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs just brought L’Jarius Sneed back, so we looked at possible Lions reunions of their own. A few familiar faces are still out there who could quietly make sense for Detroit’s depth and competition heading into camp.
On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs brought back cornerback L’Jarius Sneed after he left to go play for the Titans for a couple of seasons. This had us wondering who is out there right now that the Detroit Lions could potentially reunite with. Here’s who we found:
Edge Cam Gill
Cam Gill’s time with the Lions happened really fast. He spent a couple of weeks with Detroit during the 2024 season. Now he’s leading the UFL in sacks and has a really good shot at winning the Defensive Player of the Year award. Gill has experience playing in the NFL and even sacked Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl in 2020. He could come in for a shot at a depth role on the 53-man roster.
LB Jahlani Tavai
I know a lot of Lions fans are still upset about this one. It did not work out for him here, but then he went to the Patriots and started there for years. In a return to Detroit, Tavai could compete for the Will linebacker spot with Malcolm Rodriguez while the Lions wait for Rolder to get ready to take over. At the very least, he’s great competition at the spot during training camp.
LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin
He’s already come back once. Why not make it a second time? Reeves-Maybin has proven to be one of the better special teams players in the league in the past few years, and while he might not be the guy he was in 2023, he can still be a good hand there. He hasn’t strayed far. He was just in Chicago with Ben Johnson last year.
S Ifeatu Melifonwu
Melifonwu is still out there right now. He actually worked out with the Seahawks on Monday. While I think the Lions are pretty set at safety right now, even without Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch, there’s no harm in bringing in a guy who’s been a part of the system and played well in it.
