You may have haven introduced to former John Carroll WR Tyren Montgomery at the Senior Bowl in January. That’s when people like me first started talking about the small school standout who kept making his presence known against defenders from much bigger schools.

Flash forward, and the Titans have him on their roster after winning his favor in the post-draft scramble for UDFA signings. He sat down with Dharya Sharma on the SharmSports YouTube channel to discuss his time so far in Nashville and the NFL.

Titans, Ridley were meant to be for Montgomery in free agency

It won’t surprise you to hear that Montgomery’s self-described biggest adjustment so far is learning an NFL playbook. “I’m like, damn… what’s going on?“ he told Sharma. “So then I ended up being in a routine and I ended up asking lsome of my teammates, you know, some of the vets, what they do.”

Sharma asked which veterans had taken Montgomery under their wing, and his answer included WR Lance McCutcheon and QB Hendon Hooker, both further down the depth chart. B ur one starter stands out to Montgomery too:

“And then I’ll say Rid, Calvin Ridley. It’s crazy. Cause like, I would say I manifested that. Calvin Ridley would be one of my favorite players. Like when I first started playing football in the backyard with my brother, that’s who I was watching on YouTube.”

Montgomery didn’t hide his admiration from the veteran when he arrived in Tennessee. “I met Rid last week and, you know, I would just show him my respect. Telling him look bro, I really mimic my game after you, like the way you move, your body style, all that stuff.”

At 5’11 and 204lbs, Montgomery’s build and athleticism clears the bar to succeed in the NFL. And with the guidance of seasoned pros like Ridley, perhaps he turns into a draft weekend steal for Tennessee.

“Like I really love your game,” Montgomery told Ridley. “So, you know, he took a liking towards me and we’re going to get some work in together. So it’d just be nice and fun to really, you know, learn from him and see what he does.”
