The Tennessee Vols are looking to rebuild their middle infield this offseason via the NCAA transfer portal.

Shortstop Manny Marin and second baseman/outfielder Jay Abernathy recently entered the transfer portal.

Additionally, second baseman Blake Grimmer, who settled in as the Vols’ top option at second base this past season, could be selected in the 2026 MLB Draft later this summer.

Tennessee is one of the top three schools for a transfer second baseman

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the Volunteers are among the top three schools for Air Force transfer second baseman Wyatt Hanoian, who slashed .357/.498/.573 as a freshman last season.

Hanoian hit six home runs in 2026 while committing only six errors in the field.

Nakos reported that the transfer infielder is entering decision mode.

“Sources tell On3 that Hanoian is entering decision mode,” wrote Nakos. “The three top schools in the mix for the second baseman are Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida, sources tell On3.”

VolQuest’s Mike Wilson reported that Hanoian visited Tennessee earlier this week.

The Vols are looking for more offense up the middle, and while Hanoian isn’t a slugger, his .357 average and .498 OBP shows that he’s a regular on the basepaths.
