Any news regarding Dak Prescott is important, especially when it comes to his health.

Per Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, Prescott is currently dealing with a sore knee that will limit his participation in mandatory minicamp. It’s unclear what caused the issue, but it likely stems from OTAs/workouts. Regardless, Schottenheimer said it’s nothing to be concerned about when he spoke with reporters on Tuesday.

“Dak’s going to be limited in team and just practice,” Schottenheimer told reporters. “He’s got a sore knee, nothing we’re concerned about, but we’re just going to be smart heading into these last couple days. So, (we’re) really healthy as of now.”

ESPN’s Todd Archer later reported Prescott participated in Tuesday’s 7-on-7 session, which makes sense. Based on Schottenheimer’s comments, he should participate, albeit via limited fashion, in 11-on-11s, too.

It’s easy to see why it’s nothing to get bent out of shape over. At the same time, however, it’s something to keep in the back of the mind even once training camp rolls around. There have been plenty of instances where things can flare back up and whatnot.

And of course, it makes all the sense in the world to play it safe with the face of the franchise.

Brian Schottenheimer provides injury updates for other Cowboys players

Along with Dak Prescott, Schottenheimer shared other injury updates to some important players, as well.

“Malik Hooker is going to be limited today, [he’s] got a tight back,” said Schottenheimer. “DaRon Bland’s doing great. Jalen Thompson is limited today, (as he’s doing) a little bit more individual with the pec. [Donovan] Ezeiruaku who’s doing great [and] James Houston’s got a back.”

The news on Bland and Ezeiruaku is encouraging considering both players had offseason surgery. There’s always a non-zero chance for a setback that can affect a player’s offseason. The fact both are in good shape to where Schottenheimer can use the language he used is great to hear.

Thompson’s still dealing with the recent pec strain he suffered, but all indications the Cowboys’ free agent addition will be good for training camp.

As Schottenheimer pointed out, the Cowboys are in a good spot. We’ll just have to keep tabs on Dak Prescott’s knee over the next couple of days and once training camp begins.
