Eagles edge defender abruptly retires from the NFL following Philadelphia’s decision to sign veteran defender
The Eagles have done a lot of moving and shaking with their EDGE defenders this offseason, and that was proven true again after the sudden and unexpected retirement of a recently signed pass rusher.
The Philadelphia Eagles‘ pass-rushing unit is one that is always evolving under the direction of general manager Howie Roseman. Rarely does he sit back with any position group, but the edge defenders are always dynamic.
In the past few months alone, the Eagles traded with the Minnesota Vikings for Jonathan Greenard, and just days ago, they added former Buffalo Bills pass rusher A.J. Epenesa. Well, that move makes a lot more sense when looking at the latest news in that room.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka retires from the NFL
JTS is most known for his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played four years and started 45 games for the Bucs. He then signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2025 before being traded to the Bears.
At only 27 years old, the decision comes as a bit of a surprise, especially given the role he was expected to have in Philly. The onus is now on players like Arnold Ebiketie and Uar Bernard to first make the roster, and second, show what they have at their disposal.
We’ll see who steps up come September.
