Broncos player who has every reason to be frustrated dropped some strong words about Denver’s offense

The Denver Broncos were a fourth quarter blizzard and a quarterback injury away from reaching the Super Bowl last season. Denver is hoping that a couple of big offseason moves will help the team get to the big game this season.

When the Denver Broncos traded for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle earlier this spring, one of the immediate reactions was that the move would impact wide receiver Marvin Mims’ role with the team.

Mims, after all, saw his production drop a bit in 2025 — 181 fewer receiving yards than he had in 2024 — so the addition of Waddle would presumably cut into his production even more.

The former Oklahoma wide receiver, in fact, was asked in March if he thought the addition of Waddle would cut into his role.

“Yeah, a little bit,” said Mims. “It’s interesting to see how I fit in the offense.”

If anyone has a reason to be frustrated with the addition of Waddle, it’s Mims.

And that’s why Mims’ recent comments about the Broncos’ offense ahead of the 2026 season should be so encouraging for Denver fans.

Marvin Mims says Denver’s offense and special teams are ahead of where it was a year ago at this time

Mims was asked on Sunday at this football camp about the state of Denver’s offense with training camp just around the corner.

“Offensively, I know we’re putting a lot of stuff in with (offensive coordinator) Davis (Webb) and changing things up,” said Mims. “Which is nice and fun. But we’re installing… and we’re a lot further ahead than we were last year — which is a huge thing to see. I’m excited for all three phases. I mean, the defense is going to be the defense. But offensively and special teams-wise, I think we’re a lot further [ahead] than we were. I think we have a lot of confidence, we have a lot of guys, a lot of playmakers. It’s going to be a fun year.”

Mims also said that adding Waddle has been “amazing”.

If a guy who is expected to see a reduced role in the offense is sounding this positive about the offense in June, then it’s certainly a terrific sign for how good the Broncos’ offense could be this fall.

Denver had the No. 3 scoring defense in the NFL last season and the No. 14 scoring offense. And they finished with a 14-3 record in the regular season. If the Broncos’ offense can be a top 10 scoring offense in 2026, then the AFC West may be over before it even starts — regardless of how good Patrick Mahomes looks coming back from a torn ACL.
