Jalen Hurts showed up for DeVonta Smith’s wedding in Florida this past weekend, and the video circulating on social media is telling. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback was line dancing, smiling from ear to ear, and vibing with his No. 1 wide receiver on one of the biggest days of Smith’s life. For a fanbase that spent the entire offseason listening to lazy narratives about Hurts being a bad teammate, this was the perfect response.

The narrative never made sense

All offseason, we heard the noise. Hurts supposedly didn’t want to go to A.J. Brown‘s wedding. He was being distant. He wasn’t showing up for his guys. The talking heads ran with it, the big pages consolidated it, and suddenly the Eagles quarterback had a teammate problem. It was always overblown, and this moment at Smith’s wedding should hammer that point home for good.

Hurts showed up for wide receiver one. He wasn’t sitting in a corner somewhere or making a quick appearance for the cameras. He was out there dancing, laughing, and genuinely enjoying himself with a guy he’s trusted for a while. The connection between these two has never looked stronger, and that matters heading into a season where Philadelphia’s offense needs to take a massive step forward under a new offensive coordinator.

People forget how important the quarterback-receiver relationship is off the field. We’ve seen what happens when that chemistry breaks down. We’ve seen the drama, the passive-aggressive social media posts, the podcast interviews where guys say one thing but clearly mean another. What Hurts and Smith have is the opposite of that. These two genuinely enjoy each other’s company, and that translates to the field.

What it means for 2026

Now, I’m not going to sit here and tell you that a wedding video guarantees the Eagles are going to have a top 5 offense. But the optics matter. And when your franchise quarterback is that locked in with his top target during the offseason, it sets the tone for the roster.

I have a special request, by the way. When Hurts connects with Smith for a deep touchdown in Week 1, I need them to break out the line dance in the end zone. Can we get a little celebration, a callback to this moment? That would be incredible.

But seriously, this is the kind of thing that should excite Eagles fans heading into the fall. Smith got married in Florida, and his quarterback was right there with him, not out of obligation, but because he wanted to be. That’s what good teammates do. They show up. And Hurts has always been that guy, no matter what the outside noise tries to suggest.

The Eagles have a lot of new pieces on offense, a new coordinator calling plays, and a fanbase hungry to see this group bounce back after a disappointing finish to last season. Having your quarterback and your best receiver on the same page, building that bond away from the facility, is exactly how you lay the groundwork for a big year. We can finally put the tired “Jalen won’t show up for his teammates” narrative to bed where it belongs.
