‘That’s the record I really wanted to break’ – Peyton Manning didn’t care much about records, except for one that he wasn’t able to break
Tennessee Volunteers legend and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning didn’t care much about individual records, but there’s one that he wishes he would’ve been able to break during his illustrious career.
Tennessee Vols legend and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning still holds several impressive NFL records — the most passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season — but the two-time Super Bowl winner has never cared much about individual records.
There’s one individual record, however, that Manning didn’t break during his illustrious career that he wishes he would’ve.
Peyton Manning reveals the record he wanted to break as a player
Manning, who was inducted into the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday night, revealed that he always wanted to break Brett Favre’s consecutive starts record.
“I started every game for the Colts for 13 years straight, and then I had these neck injuries and I had to miss an entire season,” said Manning. “But dad (Archie Manning) always taught us that as a quarterback you have to be there for your teammates. It’s about being accountable and answering the bell every Sunday. And Brett Favre had this incredible record and that’s the record that I really wanted to break was the consecutive starts record. Eli (Manning) almost broke it himself. Eli was wired the same way.”
Favre still holds the record for consecutive starts with 277.
Peyton started 208 consecutive games for the Colts.
Eli, meanwhile, started 210 consecutive games for the Giants.
